SMP Pricing: What to Expect – A Complete Guide

Hi, I’m Lori Lee—Master SMP Artist at Scalp Ink LV and certified trainer with Leaders Academy SMP.

SMP Cost

With years of experience and hundreds of scalp transformations behind me, one of the most common questions I hear is: "How much does SMP cost?"

The goal of this article is to walk you through what to expect with SMP pricing, how it’s calculated, and the most important factors that affect cost.

The Average Cost of SMP

SMP pricing can vary depending on your needs and the level of expertise you’re receiving.

On average:

  • $500 – $4,000 for areas like temples or Hairline Restoration

  • $800-$1,800+ for Scar Camouflage Treatments

  • $800 – $4,000 for Density Treatments, partial or full coverage

  • $2,500 – $4,000+ for full Scalp Restoration

Most clients require 2 to 4 sessions, spaced about 10–14 days apart, to get the best, most natural-looking results.

All sessions are included in the overall price.

Factors That Influence SMP Cost

1. Extent of Hair Loss

The more area that needs to be covered, the more time, pigment, and expertise the treatment requires.

For example, someone with a receding hairline will pay less than someone needing full top and crown coverage.

2. Number of Sessions

While most clients need 2–4 sessions, certain skin types (especially oily or thick skin) may require a fourth touch-up to build the proper density.

3. Experience & Certification of the Artist

Skilled artists who are certified through respected academies invest in their training to offer superior results—and that’s reflected in the pricing.

4. Location

Prices can vary depending on where you're getting the treatment.

Larger cities and high-demand areas tend to have higher rates because of increased overhead and demand.

5. Type of Treatment

Not all SMP is priced the same:

  • Hairline Restoration tends to be less expensive than full scalp coverage

  • Scar Camouflage may involve intricate blending

  • Density Treatments depend on how much thickening is needed

Multiple Sessions

SMP is not a one-and-done procedure. It’s a layering process designed to give a realistic, natural look.

Your first session creates a soft foundation, and each follow-up session builds on that to create the perfect tone, shape, and density.

As a trainer, I teach future artists to never rush this process—great SMP is built gradually.

Maintenance & Additional Cost

→ Touch-Up Sessions – After your final treatment, many clients return within 12–18 months for a refresh. These range from $300–$600, depending on what’s needed.

Aftercare Products – At Scalp Ink LV, we recommend aftercare products like balms and sunscreen to help your results last longer.

Consultations – Most reputable clinics, including ours, offer free consultations to walk you through the process and provide a personalized quote.

Is SMP Worth It

In my experience, absolutely. SMP is life-changing for many of my clients.
